I began my studies in Software Engineering from Morgan State University, but have always maintained an interest in studying health and physical fitness as well.
I founded Gem Fitness in 2011 after seeing a lack of flexibility for personal trainers in many local area gyms. Born in Queens, NY and raised by two immigrant parents, I learned early to respect others and maintain a poised, positive demeanor in both my personal and professional life.
At at 12, I began Tae Kwan Do training under 1978 World Tae Kwan Do Champion Grand Master Eugene Teter (R.I.P.) and joined the Black Belt club during my two years there. I've also recieved several trophies and medals for competing in sparring and Tae Kwan Do kata (forms) tournaments like the Yong Sun Lee tournament in 1992.
After training with Three time Kickboxing Champion Master Eddie Butcher Jr.'s Kickboxing Academy in early 2002, I earned an honorary Black Belt in Kickboxing. Over the past several years I have taught: Tae Kwan Do at Jak Suk Lee's Tae Kwan Do Academy in Bowie, MD; Kickboxing at LA Fitness in Silver Spring and The Bowie Athletic Center and am currently teaching Ju Jitsu in several apartment complexes throughout the DMV. As a teacher, I believe that learning is an on-going process and train weekly with the Karate Bo Ju Jitsu Academy of Glen Burnie, MD headed by Muhammad Abdul Sharif and his son, Ahmad Sharif (shown below).
